I personally can’t stand high heels in real life and I think this dislike stems from how much pressure is put on women to wear them, Brittany King mentioned in an article, “a woman in heels is the quintessential woman: a woman at her best, most glamorous self.” It’s stupid and absolutely absurd.
Apart from that, there is nothing I despise more than seeing a female character wearing stiletto heels on the battlefield. While high heels may look cute or aesthetically pleasing (if you’re into sadomasochism) they severely impair the movement of the wearer, especially if the heel’s point is very thin, and in all honestly, they make the wearer more of a liability. This issue is such an epidemic that there’s even a TV Tropes page for it…
Here are the worst offenders in this category:
I'd held Monster High in high esteem because of how quirky the characters were - they made being weird the norm and I thought that was a cool message, especially for its targeted audience. However, like most fashion dolls, the focus was on heels and I was disturbed by the fact that the default shoe choice for every female character was heels! Even their roller skates were heels!
This is very unsettling especially because this is aimed at young children and by showing them that heels are some weird norm they will feel pressured to. What children watch and the toys they play with really help socialize them and show them what society deems "right," I do not like that.
Miss Fortune seems to serve as the breasts and butt of every League joke. It's like they set the poor woman up for misfortune on the rift in the clothes they put her in.
But what can we expect from the game that gave us this sorry excuse of a costume:
Yes. I love RWBY, it’s ingenious, awesome, stellar, well-written, and superbly animated. However, those heels have got to go - every time I see Weiss or Cinderfall running around I get a headache! In all honestly, watching RWBY is what spurred me to make this post!
Spoiler alert - I strongly believe that neither Pyrrha nor the Fall Maiden would have lost (and died) if they hadn't worn heels to fight Cinderfall.
