Stepping Out of Your Comfort Zone: A Look At Artistic Manifesto
Stepping out into the real world and getting that first major job is exhilarating. But what happens when that job goes south? Or when you realize it just wasn’t meant for you? Quirktastic got the chance to speak with Michell Clark, founder of the website Artistic Manifesto, on how he took that initial step to leave a passionless job and pursue his dreams.
Q: Tell us about Artistic Manifesto and how it...manifested.
MC: Artistic Manifesto is a music discovery platform for the "eclectic, selective hip-hop lover." The overall goal of Artistic Manifesto is to share the best music in the world we can find that will appeal to our audience in exciting, experiential ways. I created it in 2009 when I needed a creative outlet while attending a military academy.

Q: What is your proudest accomplishment or "aha" moment that you've had?
MC: I think my biggest "aha" moment came when I had to reassess the "why" behind the daily habits that I had set for myself in relation to my brand. I had convinced myself that certain things were the best things I could be focusing on for my brand, when I didn't have any truly valid reasons to focus on those things. I had to admit to myself that I didn't know everything that I thought I did.
Q: Is there anything you wish you had done differently on this journey?
MC: There are tons of things I would have done differently, but I think the biggest thing would be to sit down and clarify my long term goals from the jump. That being said, I can't be mad at myself for things that I simply didn't know. I'll take the journey as-is, at face value. Its taught me so much.
Q: What advice do you have for people like you who want to unleash their creativity but are worried/scared?
MC: You can spend your entire life being scared and wondering "what if," if you want, but what's the value or benefit in that? You need to do new things, even when you're scared. Nothing groundbreaking happens within your comfort zone.
