As an Anime fan and overall bubbly person, I never find myself purposely watching anything that will leave me in the fetal position.

However, while I enjoy fun and whimsical anime such as Ouran High School Host Club and Sailor Moon, I do love a good tragedy.

I kept hearing people talk about Devilman: Crybaby and for some reason I decided to dive in head-first without reading anything about it…I do this quite often, actually.

The Result? I am shook. So in the spirit of being scarred by fiction, here is a list of anime I’ve accidentally stumbled across that have left me in my feelings, rocking back and forth in peril, and needing a therapist. What’s more is that I 100% recommend any of these as their plots and animation are hauntingly beautiful.

Devilman: Crybaby

Of course the first that is mentioned is the anime that inspired this article. While it left me feeling way too much, everything about it was brilliant.

Parasyte: The Maxim

Where do I even begin with this one?

Your Lie In April

Ready for a feel trip?

Gankutsuo: The Count Of Monte Cristo

I was instantly captivated by the funky use of patterns and prints…along with it being one of the best stories of revenge to ever be told.

Welcome To The NHK

For all of you conspiracy theorists out there…

AKIRA

Timeless. And will for sure mess you up.

Elfen Lied

*rocks back and forth*

Kizumonogatari

You will be perplexed, captivated and saying “what the hell,” the whole way through…

Psycho Pass

One of my all-time favorite anime. Psycho Pass  will leave you wondering “what if this could actually happen?”

Perfect Blue

*Mind explodes*

Death Parade

An enigmatic bartender that oversees the trials that determine where you go in the afterlife? You’re going to want to watch this.

Honorable Mention: Kekegurui

As I just started watching this anime and am only 6 episodes in, this gets an honorable mention…because I’m pretty sure it’s going to leave me scarred like the rest. This will make you think twice about gambling anything.
